Aggravated animal cruelty is a third-degree felony and punishable by a prison sentence up to 5 years and a maximum fine of $10,000. If a defendant is charged with intentionally torturing an animal, they face a fine of $2,500 and must complete anger management classes. A second conviction can have them paying $5,000 and six months jail time.
